Social media is buzzing over the comeback of Babar Azam, the most highly rated Pakistan batter. The ex-captain, who was dropped from the T20I squad, is reportedly on his way to Dubai to rejoin the Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four contest against India.

Babar, once deemed the best modern-day cricketer produced by Pakistan, was pushed out of the team’s T20I setup over a prolonged lean patch and lack of impact in ICC tournaments.

Instead, the PCB handed over the captaincy to Salman Agha and selected a young team to compete in the Asia Cup 2025.

Babar Azam Will Not Make His T20I Comeback Anytime Soon

That being said, with Pakistan struggling to score runs in the Asia Cup 2025, a viral picture is doing the rounds on social media, showing Babar Azam travelling. The post claimed the senior batter is flying to Dubai to join the men in green for their upcoming clash against India.

However, the viral post is fake, and Babar has not been named in the squad officially by the PCB. Moreover, according to journalist Sohail Imran, Babar Azam is not travelling to Dubai and remains in Lahore, practising in the red-ball camp.

Reports suggest that Babar Azam could be inducted back into Pakistan’s T20I team for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa scheduled in October.

As head coach, Mike Hesson previously stated, Babar has to work on his strike rate and improve his skills to match modern-day standards of the T20 format. Until that requirement is achieved, Azam will have to wait on the sidelines.

Babar Azam’s Recent Performance

That being said, Babar Azam last featured in an international game during the ODI series against the West Indies. In 3 games, he scored 9, 0 and 47. Moreover, in PSL 2025, he was nowhere like his usual self, scoring 288 runs as Peshawar Zalmi captain in 10 innings with a 36.00 average and 128.57 strike rate.

Not only that, but Babar Azam last scored an international century in 2023 against Nepal. Since 2022, he has not scored a single fifty in Test cricket.
