Rashid Khan To Captain Spin Army As AFG Drop Big Names For BAN Series

Afghanistan have announced their squads for the upcoming white-ball series against Bangladesh, and some of the big names have been left out. Left-arm quick Fazalhaq Farooqi, along with veteran all-rounders Gulbadin Naib and Karim Janat, have been omitted following a dismal Asia Cup 2025 performance.

In place of Farooqi, Afghanistan have called up 20-year-old uncapped seamer Bashir Ahmad, who will feature in both ODIs and T20Is. Bashir has played 14 T20s so far, picking up 12 wickets, and is seen as a like-for-like replacement.

Another fresh face is Wafiullah Tarakhil, an 18-year-old top-order batter who has been included in the T20I squad after impressing in the Shpageeza League, where he was the third-highest run-scorer with 298 runs at a strike rate of 155.

Mystery spinner AM Ghazanfar has been kept in the main ODI squad but demoted to reserves for the T20Is, where Afghanistan will rely on their spin giants Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi. In ODIs,

Ghazanfar will join hands with Rashid, Nabi, and youngster Nangeyalia Kharote, giving Afghanistan plenty of spin options for the Abu Dhabi matches.

The six-match series begins with 3 T20Is in Sharjah on October 2, 3, and 5, followed by three ODIs in Abu Dhabi from October 8 to 14.

Afghanistan had lost their last T20I clash with Bangladesh in the Asia Cup by just eight runs, which adds extra spice to this contest. Overall, the Afghans will be under the pump to prove themselves after a humiliating Group Stage exit from the Asia Cup 2025.
