In a significant development, Assam Cricket Association (ACA) is set to pay a heartfelt tribute to the late music legend Zubeen Garg in the upcoming opening ceremony of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 in Guwahati. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that a special 40-minute show will be dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of the heartthrob of Assam.

Zubeen, a celebrated Bollywood and Assamese singer, tragically passed away recently, leaving the state and the nation in mourning. Garg’s untimely death has plunged Assam into an emotional standstill, with fans flooding the streets to bid farewell to their beloved icon.

Across the country and beyond, tributes have poured in from artists, leaders, and admirers, underlining the depth of Garg’s influence. Indian cricket star Riyan Parag also expressed his grief in a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday.

Adding to the wave of homage, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the upcoming Women’s World Cup curtain raiser between India and Sri Lanka at Barsapara Stadium on September 30th will feature a special program celebrating Zubeen Garg’s legacy, as reported by Sportstar.

Known as the “Heartthrob of Assam,” Zubeen Garg was more than a singer, he was a cultural phenomenon who gave voice to the emotions, dreams, and struggles of his people. From Assamese folk to Bollywood blockbusters, his music went beyond borders, inspiring generations and creating a legacy that will live on forever.

The Women’s World Cup opening ceremony will also feature a performance by renowned playback singer Shreya Ghoshal, who had been previously announced as one of the star attractions of the event.
