The countdown has begun for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which kicks off next week in India and Sri Lanka. With just days left, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has stepped forward to show his love and support for the Indian women’s cricket team, popularly known as the Women in Blue.

Akshay Kumar Calls For Equal Support Ahead Of WC 2025

Akshay, known for his passion for sports, urged fans across the nation to cheer for the women’s team with the same energy and respect that is usually reserved for the men’s team. He said that true cricket fans are those who support every Indian player, whether male or female.

Sharing his personal experience, Akshay recalled traveling all the way from Scotland to watch the 2017 Women’s World Cup final. That match left a deep impression on him.

"I still remember the 2017 World Cup final. I took a train from Scotland and went to the stadium to watch the final. That's when I saw the passion of our women's cricket team. Why did I go? Because that's when I understood that there's no gender in cricket. There's only one jersey, one passion, and one team. Team India,” he said in a video shared by JioStar.

In the video, Akshay also held up vice-captain Smriti Mandhana’s No. 18 jersey. He explained that whether it’s Virat Kohli wearing the number or Smriti Mandhana, the jersey represents the same thing, India.

“We usually cheer for the men's team. But the real support will come when we cheer for our women's team as much as we cheer for the men's team. The real fan is the one who stands with every player, whether it's a man or a woman. This is the sign of the real blue. 'Jersey Wahi, Jazba wahi!'" he added.

Meanwhile, the Indian women’s team recently played a tough series against Australia, narrowly losing 1-2.

The 2025 tournament will be the 13th edition of the Women’s ODI World Cup and the fourth time India will host. Over five weeks, 31 matches will be played across five venues in India and Sri Lanka.
