Virat Kohli has always been a solid confidant and passionate supporter of rising young opener Shubman Gill's talent and promise at the international stage. 

The modern-day legend has been guiding his potential legacy successor constantly on and off the field and stands jubilant whenever he succeeds. 

One such moment of great happiness for Gill's cricketing guardian arrived when the elegant right-hander smashed his maiden T20I century for India.

Facing question marks on his spot in the shortest format after initial struggles, Gill hammered the touring New Zealand side in the decider of the three-match series in Ahmedabad in February 2023.

Relishing a good batting surface at his favourite Motera Stadium after finding life difficult earlier on in the series, the 24-year-old came out roaring at the crease and produced a majestic knock of 126 not out off just 63 deliveries. 

Donning the hat of an aggressor, Gill plundered 12 fours and 7 maximums in the middle and elevated India's score to a jaw-dropping 234/4 in their allotted 20 overs before the hosts suppressed the Kiwi spirits with a massive win. 

In the aftermath of the fixture, Gill garnered rich praise from all corners as he reinforced his talent and class. But the biggest accolade and mark of approval came from Kohli, one of his cricketing heroes, as the great man took to Instagram to make a special congratulatory post. 

Kohli's story post contained a heartening image of the two players hugging on an earlier instance of Gill celebrating his hundred with a special message: 

"Sitaara (Star) Future is here". 

The stalwart once again laid bare his deep-felt love and support towards India's finest young talent with a wonderful post, which would've certainly warmed the heart of his successor and acted as a source of further inspiration for Gill.
