Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli achieved a historic milestone during the ICC Mens ODI World Cup 2023 held in India.

While batting against arch-nemesis New Zealand in the crucial semi-finals of the knockout stage, Kohli scored his 50th ODI hundred to surpass legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time high world record.

Sachin Tendulkar, one of the biggest ambassadors of cricket, scored 49 hundreds in the 50-over format during his 20-year-long illustrious career to script history. His record stood uneaten until 15th November 2023, wherein Kohli shattered Sachin's record in the latter's presence at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Novak Djokovic Applauds Virat Kohli's Historic Ton!

While the whole world stood in applause, Kohli found an admirer in one of tennis's greatest superstars, Novak Djokovic. The World No.1 tennis legend took his Instagram to share a picture of Kohli and congratulated the latter for his historic feat. He also called Kohli legendary in his caption.

Having said that, the cross-sport exchange of compliments underscores the camaraderie and mutual respect among athletes who excel in their respective fields. Djokovic, a global sports icon, recognizes Kohli's achievements and speaks to the universality of sporting greatness and the ability of athletes to appreciate excellence beyond the boundaries of their specific disciplines.

Virat Kohli's 50th ODI century in the World Cup 2023 semi-finals represents a monumental achievement in cricket, solidifying his status as one of the sport's modern-day legends. The acknowledgment from Novak Djokovic adds an extra layer of significance, showcasing how Kohli's accomplishments resonate across different sports and with athletes who understand the relentless pursuit of excellence.

That being said, while India ended up losing the World Cup finals to Australia, Virat Kohli's 50th ODI ton served as a major highlight of the tournament. It was perhaps the only silver lining moment the Indian team could take back home.
