Australia clashed with Pakistan for a crucial boxing day test match last week. In a gripping contest, the hosts managed to hold on to their nerves to clinch a thrilling victory on Day 4.

A target of 317 was simply way too good enough for an under-pressure and under-confident men on the green side who succumbed to pressure despite forming strong partnerships.

Nonetheless, Aussie captain Pat Cummins wreaked havoc by claiming a 10-wicket haul to mark the end of a successful year as the Australian cricket team's captain.

Having said that, a bizarre moment during Day 4 of the boxing day test caught people's eyes. Former Australian wicketkeeper batter Adam Gilchrist was seated in the commentary box alongside Isha Guha when he revealed an uncanny theory that remained predominant during his playing days.

The ex-keeper suggested that a strange theory was going on during his time wherein if a team bowls three consecutive maiden overs in test cricket, a wicket in the next couple of overs is inevitable. Gilchrist later suggested that Australia had bowled three maiden overs in a row, so a wicket could be just around the corner.

While the theory seemed bizarre, Gilchrist was spot on with his prediction. Even before the former keeper could finish his sentence, Mitchell Starc removed Abdullah Shafique with a pitched-up outside off-bait delivery.

Shafique attempted a drive but ended up getting a thick outside edge, which flew straight to Usman Khawaja at third slip. Khawaja completed a regulation catch to end Shafique's stay at the crease, and Starc drew first blood to inch closer to a sensational victory.

While Adam Gilchrist shared the theory as trivia, he also didn't expect it to come true. The former cricketer was perplexed at first sight but then seemed relieved as his home side gained an upper edge with an early dismissal.

Australia ended up bowling out Pakistan later in the day to seal victory at Melbourne Cricket Ground and also secured the three-game series by 2-0.
