Prithvi Shaw was considered as the next Sachin Tendulkar during his teenage and started off his Test career at the age of 18 with a century. He was expected to go from strength to strength, but the discipinary issues started creeping slowly and steadily and along with it came some techinical deficiencies as well.
The pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval during the 2020-21 BGT in Australia exposed those deficiencies even further as Shaw was clean bowled by Mitchell Starc and Cummins in the first and second innings respectively. It was the first Test of the tour and just on the second ball of the first over, Mitchell Starc cleaned up Shaw with a beautiful inswinger.
Prithvi Shaw Departed For Silver Duck During Infamous 36-All Out Adelaide Test
Ricky Ponting was the on-air commentator at that time and before the ball was bowled, Ponting who was with Delhi Capitals at that time was talking about Shaw's problem with the incoming ball. He also predicted that Starc will try to bowl an inswinger and the Aussie pacer did exactly that, bowling a fullish inswinger on off, Shaw went for a drive, got an inside edge and the ball shattered the stumps.
In the same year while playing for Delhi Capitals, Shaw encountered same problems against incoming deliveries and that Adeliade Test started his downfall. He did not play for India after that infamous match where India were bowled out for just 36 in the second innings. He continued to play under the coaching of Ricky Ponting, but recently went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction which is quite a downfall for a player once touted as the next big thing.
