In a significant turn of events that shook India's domestic system a few years ago, Baroda all-rounder Deepak Hooda withdrew from the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 season due to captain Krunal Pandya's bullying and abusive conduct. Hooda left Baroda subsequently after state authorities held him responsible instead of initiating an inquiry on Pandya.
Bardo Cricket Team was jolted in the 2021 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after all-rounder Deepak Hooda publicly announced his withdrawal from the tournament. He flagged captain Krunal Pandya's abusive conduct in an email to BCA and stated the skipper's bullying nature as the primary reason behind his drastic step.
Deepak Hooda accused Krunal Pandya of bullying
He claimed that Krunal Pandya used abusive language and bullied him in front of teammates and other state teams which made him feel depressed and under extreme pressure. However, the tipping point, as per Hooda's account, occurred when Pandya allegedly interrupted his training session and asserted his authority over the team.
Deepak Hooda further added that such behaviour had created an unhealthy atmosphere in dressing room, making it difficult for him to perform. He also indicated that the skipper's actions felt like an attempt to undermine him and threaten his place on the team.
However, Deepak Hooda's public accusations backfired as Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) suspended him for indiscipline. Hooda eventually left Baroda after 6 months to join Rajasthan. Moreover, Krunal Pandya also had to step down from captaincy since Baroda performed poorly in the 2021 SMAT tournament following the dirty controversy.
That being said, Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya buried hatches after the duo were picked by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL. They cleared the matter as professionals, restructured the brotherly bond and had a great run together with LSG in the previous couple of seasons. While BCA tried to bring back Hooda into Baroda, the all-rounder chose to continue his commitment with Rajasthan.
