Unlike developed countries, nurturing a budding cricketer in a subcontinental nation demands a lot of monetary funds.

Hence, most of the success stories coming out of India, Pakistan, and other South Eastern Cricketing nations are heart-warming and have a sense of accomplishment about them.

Pakistan's pacer Haris Rauf's journey is no less than phenomenal who started his career as a tape-ball bowler, and is now gearing up to feature for Pakistan in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

Ahead of the start of the competition, Rauf spoke to ESPNcricinfo, in a documentary titled, The Incredible rise of Haris Rauf’ spoke about the hardships during his growing up years.

Rauf, who comes from a hunble background, and an low-income family, opened up selling snacks on street on Sunday market in order to pay for his education fees.

Here's what Rauf said

"After matriculation, I used to work in the market selling snacks [nimco] on Sundays to be able to pay my fees. The rest of the week, I will attend school and academy. When I enrolled in university, my father was not earning enough to be able to pay my fees and I couldn't afford it too but by playing tape-ball cricket I would easily manage my fees,"

A product of the Lahore Qalandars (LQ) franchise started playing tennis-ball cricket in order to pay for his own expenses, without telling his family initially, and then thanks to his PSL franchise, went over to Australia for training, and also bowled to Team India in the nets during 2018 tour.
