Making his maiden 50-overs ICC Cricket World Cup appearance for the Netherlands in the ongoing ten-nation mega-event, Bas de Leede has turned up the heat against Pakistan at Hyderabad.

Son of Tim de Leede, who also represented in three World Cups (1996, 2003, and 2007) for the Dutch side, Bas's rise in cricket has been quite phenomenal and continues to shine today as well, having claimed four crucial wickets at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

The Netherlands have already gained a reputation for being giant killers. The tag stuck with the Dutch side after the 2009 T20 World Cup when Jeroen Smits-led XI notched a historic win over eventual winners England at Lord's.

The Netherlands chased down 163 runs against a potent England attack, with two needed of the final last ball, shocking fans all over.

Now, in an interview with RevSportz, the batting all-rounder revealed that he missed the Netherlands' historic T20 World Cup win over England, while his father witnessed the miraculous feat while being present in the stands.

The 23-year-old stated that he missed the memorable final moments of the match because it went past his bedtime, as he was 10 back then.

Here's what de Leede recalled

“I actually did not watch the whole game. My parents went over to Lord’s and we had someone over to babysit. As the game went past my bedtime, I unfortunately was told to go to bed and could not watch the end of it. My dad did take me to the Pakistan versus Netherlands game a couple days later, which was a really cool experience.”

Since making his debut in 2018, Bas has featured in 31 ODIs, and scored 765 runs and claimed 28 wickets.
