A strong-looking South Africa side began their World Cup 2023 campaign by facing Sri Lanka in Match No. four of the showpiece event. The clash is scheduled to take place on a doubleheader Saturday, October 07th, 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi at 14:00 PM IST. Africa's warm-up fixture with Afghanistan was abandoned due to rain and they lost their second practice match against the Kiwis. The Lankan Lions enter the tournament on the back of a heavy defeat at the hands of India in the Asia Cup final and also losses in their two warm-up games.

Wicketkeeper batter and experienced campaign Quinton de Kock will open the Proteas innings along with skipper Temba Bavuma. Notably, the 30-year-old will retire from the format after the ongoing marquee competition. His partner, Bavuma is going through a purple patch in the 50-overs format this year. Veteran left-hander David Miller, all-rounder Marco Jansen and spinner Keshav Maharaj will complete the lower-order for Bavuma's side. Miller is a seaosoned campaigner as he has been around the setup for some time now. Having made his debut in 2010, he averages 43 with five centuries and 23 fifties. Jansen has turned out to be a genuine all-rounder for the African side. The tall left-arm pacer has picked up 18 wickets in 14 ODI innings while he has a batting average of 29.44. Given the conditions in India, Test regular Maharaj is expected to partner Tabraiz Shamsi in the spin department. He averages 33 with an economy rate of 4.69.
