Netherlands' rising young allrounder Bas de Leede matched his father and former Dutch cricketer Tim de Leede's unique feat in his team's ICC World Cup 2023 opening game against Pakistan in Hyderabad on Friday (October 6).

The ever-promising cricketer, on the back of whose excellent allround display the Netherlands made the cut for the game's biggest 50-over tournament in India, equalled his father's record of bagging a four-fer in his first match of the World Cup.

While senior Tim bagged impressive figures of 4/35 in the Netherlands' 2003 World Cup opener in South Africa, the junior De Leede finished with a four-wicket haul for 62 runs in the Dutch's campaign starter for the 2023 edition in the subcontinent.

Notably, the two cricketers had an India connection in their respective performances as the senior De Leede achieved his figures in the group stage encounter against Sourav Ganguly's Indian side and 20 years later, his son replicated his feat on Indian shores on a good batting surface in Hyderabad.

The world is aware of the playing connection shared by Tim and Bas in the De Leede family but on Friday, the father-son duo got etched in the record books for Netherlands' World Cup history with the most unique feat.

Watching his son play a World Cup fixture would've been an emotional moment for Tim and the rest of the family, especially as the young De Leede continued his tremendous rise on the global stage and bolstered his stocks and reputation with a brilliant bowling display for his country.

De Leede delivered the prized scalp of an in-form Mohammad Rizwan with the old ball just when the experienced Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter was looking set for a long haul after having led his team's recovery following early hiccups with a magnificent knock of 68.

The right-arm seamer added to his scalps with the dismissal of the dangerous Iftikhar Ahmed and backed it up with the wickets of capable lower-order men Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali in the death-overs stage.
