Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will aim for their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title as they face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the much-anticipated IPL 2024 final at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

KKR had an impressive season, securing nine wins, three losses, and two abandoned games due to rain -- accumulating 20 points from 14 matches to top the league stage.

Led by Shreyas Iyer, KKR demonstrated their prowess in Qualifier 1 and defeated SRH by eight wickets. They chased down a target of 160 in just 13.4 overs, making them the first team to reach the IPL 2024 final.

With two previous titles in 2012 and 2014, KKR is the third most successful team in IPL history, followed by Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

In an intense IPL final in 2012, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the toss and elected to bat first. Significant contributions from Michael Hussey, who scored 54, and Murali Vijay, who contributed 42 runs, gave CSK a much-needed start in the final.

Suresh Raina, the star all-rounder for CSK, played a blistering cameo and smashed 87 off just 34 balls, which included three fours and five sixes, propelling CSK to a formidable total of 190/3.

Chasing 191, KKR, had a rocky start, as they lost their captain Gautam Gambhir in the first over. However, Manvinder Bisla, not a known name in the IPL by then, stepped up for KKR and scored a spectacular 89 off 48 balls. Jacques Kallis supported him well with a steady 69 off 49 balls.

KKR needed nearly 60 runs from the final five overs. The dismissal of Bisla led to a quick loss of wickets, including Yusuf Pathan and Laxmi Ratan Shukla.

However, Shakib Al Hasan (11 off 7) and Manoj Tiwary (9 off 3) held their nerves.

Tiwary smashed a boundary to seal the win for KKR by 5 wickets, leading them to a thrilling victory and securing their first IPL title in 2012 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
