In a major concern ahead of the IPL 2024 grand finals between KKR and SRH, widespread rainfall has been reported in parts of Chennai, including the Chepauk ground, as KKR was forced to cancel practice sessions mid-way.

IPL 2024 season is gearing up for its final stage as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) jostled their way through tough competition to qualify for the ultimate title deciding match.

The finals of the 17th IPL edition will take place at the Chepauk ground in Chennai from 7.30 pm onwards on Sunday i.e May 26.

Rain threatens to spoil IPL 2024 final

However, the threat of adverse weather conditions possibly affecting the smooth conduct of the finals has arisen out of nowhere with just hours left for the big event.

As per latest reports from RevSportz, widespread rains have hit the city of Chennai with Chepauk Stadium also caught in the grip of rain gods. While the rain wasn’t pouring cats and dogs, it was steady enough to interrupt KKR’s crucial and final practice session ahead of the finals against SRH.

Notably, Chennai’s weather report for tomorrow predicts 3% precipitation and thunderstorm chances in the evening. That essentially means that the final game could be interrupted by rain.

However, BCCI has arranged a reserve day for the IPL 2024 finals. Hence, if the pitch conditions on Sunday are not favourable for smooth conduct of a game of cricket, the finals will be pushed to Monday i.e May 27.

Notably, KKR already has a psychological advantage over SRH as they beat the latter in the Qualifier 1 contest to earn a direct entry into the finals of the tournament. Hopefully, the rain gods will have mercy tomorrow.
