In a closely contested match between the Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, the defending champions emerged victorious by 6 wickets while chasing a modest target of 154. The Kings failed to notch a par total for the second consecutive game, putting their batting prowess into question.

After the game, Punjab Kings skipper, Shikhar Dhawan, lauded his team's bowlers for their commendable performance in taking the game deep with not a big total to defend. However, he expressed disappointment in his batting unit's inability to take more responsibility, having played 56 dot balls, which he considered unacceptable.

Dhawan emphasized the need to rectify their batting approach and to provide more cushion to their bowling unit in the upcoming matches.

"Agree with you on that thing. We did not put many runs on the board. We have to rectify that thing going forward. Absolutely - if you see the number of dot balls, if a team plays 56 balls, you end up losing the game," said Dhawan in the post-match presentation.

The dynamic batter also stressed the need to work on their batting approach and not to lose early wickets, which puts the team on the back foot.

In a nail-biting finish, the Titans managed to chase down the target of 154 runs with just one ball to spare, inflicting the Kings' second consecutive defeat in the tournament.

Dhawan, who had played an unbeaten 99-run knock in the previous game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, failed to replicate his performance against the Titans, having an off-day with the bat.

Punjab Kings will next face Lucknow Super Giants in Match 21 of IPL 2023 on Saturday, April 15. The high-voltage contest will take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, and Dhawan and his team will be hoping to bounce back from their recent setbacks and return to winning ways.
