Rahul Tewatia is undeniably becoming a crisis man for Gujarat Titans (GT). On Thursday, Tewatia once again guided the Titans to victory, hitting a four on the penultimate delivery against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at a jam-packed Mohali Stadium in match 18 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Tewatia, who has grown in stature as a finisher since the last season, opened up about the behind-the-scenes work that he puts in to accomplish such feats for his side in pressure situations.

Speaking in the post-match conference, the left-handed all-rounder spoke about his role as a finisher and said:

“Nothing happens overnight. I was given this role in 2020 when I was with Rajasthan Royals. When your role is defined, you have clarity about it. When you are batting at 6-7, you are likely to bat in such [crunch] situations 8-9 times in 14 league games.

I have been practicing for this in the last three to four years. I practice and set targets for myself through match simulations, which gives me an idea on how to finish matches.”

Interestingly, this is the third time in four years that Tewatia has finished matches for his side against the Punjab franchise in close encounters.

Tewatia slammed Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over during his playing days for the Rajasthan Royals back in 2020 in Sharjah and hit Odean Smith for back-to-back sixes last year to help GT to victory in the final over.

The 29-year-old also spoke about backing himself to play the scoop shot against Sam Curran last evening.
