Team India have a new T20I captain - Suryakumar Yadav. The power-packed batter was made the captain ahead of front-runner, Hardik Pandya as the team management want him to take the command till the 2026 T20 World Cup.

This is not the first time Surya will take charge of the Indian T20I team. Post the 2023 World Cup heartbreak, India played a series against Australia, and SKY led India to a 4-1 comfortable victory. He then led charge of the team against the home team, South Africa, and India drew that series 1-1.

Before the start of the Australia series, Suryakumar had a special interview, wherein he talked about his bond with the Indian players and revealed his captaincy mantra.

SKY talked about how he shares a special bond with all the players, and how everyone is like a family. Surya further added that he shares a good relation with everyone off and on the field and that helps in better understanding of the game.

To conclude, Surya stated that he is a process oriented person and likes to keep things simple.

The new T20I captain will face a stern test when the Indian side will take on Sri Lanka in a 3-match series, starting from July 27. The T20I series will be commenced by 3-match ODI series, in which a returning Rohit Sharma will lead the team.
