The T20I captaincy is still up for debate, but in the latest development, Rohit Sharma is all but confirmed to lead the Indian ODI team for the series against Sri Lanka, starting at the end of the month.

Speculations were that Rohit, alongside Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah will take rest for the ODI series, but as per reports, Rohit will be back with the squad on Gautam Gambhir's special request.

Ahead of the Champions Trophy next year, India are only scheduled to play six ODI matches. As a result, the new Indian head coach, Gambhir wanted to understand the dynamics of the side and wanted his captain to play all six matches.

The team management reckons that Rohit has already got a month-long break after the T20 World Cup win, and will get sufficient rest after the Sri Lanka series, since the Test matches against Bangladesh will commence on September 19.

However, in an interesting decision made by the BCCI, both Kohli and Bumrah will have their break extended, and they will directly participate in the Test matches Vs Bangladesh.

The Indian white-ball squad was supposed to be announced on Wednesday, but the selection meeting was postponed till Thursday, and the team will be announced today. Team India will depart for the Island Nation on July 22.
