The Royals are the table toppers with 22 points from six matches. They have won five games and lost just one against MI Cape Town. Meanwhile, the Super Giants are just behind their forthcoming opposition with two losses and four wins, thereby gathering 18 points. If they can win this away fixture, the side could match the tally with the Royals.
PR vs DSG, Match 19 - Toss Factor
The Boland Park, Paarl has a first innings average of less than 140. It's more friendly towards the spinners and the medium pacers. Bowlers with a good change of variation tend to attain more success. As a batter, one needs to apply themselves in tricky conditions and eke out useful runs.
Scenario: If Paarl Royals field first
The Royals have a very good spin attack of Tabraiz Shamsi, Bjorn Fortuin and Fabien Allen that will be crucial on these conditions and can torture the opposition batters. They also possess a very good top order with Jos Buttler, Jason Roy and Wihan Lubbe firing.
Scenario: If Durban Super Giants field first
The Super Giants are a well-poised team with the likes of Heinrich Klaasen, Tony de Zorzi, Quinton de Kock, Reece Topley, etc. Not all their big stars have fired in the ongoing edition. However, they have still managed to fade well and gather more wins than loses so far.
PR vs DSG, Match 19 - Top Captain and Vice Captain Choices
Scenario: If Paarl Royals field first
Lungi Ngidi (PR): The Proteas pacer can be brilliant with the new ball and is also their leading wicket-taker after merging with eleven scalps from six matches. He also has a very good change-up that can flummox the opposition like one did to Faf du Plessis in their recent clash against Joburg Super Kings.
Tony de Zorzi (DSG): The southpaw had a good time with the bat for his national side in his recent outings. De Zorzi is an attacking batter and does not shy away from leading the charge with the bat during the powerplay. Although he hasn't featured in a the matches during SA20 2024, the southpaw has a flamboyance attached under his cricketing resume.
Scenario: If Durban Super Giants field first
Heinrich Klaasen (DSG): The South African batter is a beast of a guy when it comes to scratching through runs in tough conditions. The spin-basher could make the spinners toil hard for wickets in any conditions. He has the tendency to play good knocks in tricky situations and did so a few times during the ongoing mega-event.
Jos Buttler (PR): England’s white ball captain is their team’s leading run-getter with 245 runs from six innings. Buttler has played some matured knocks during the ongoing edition that includes two gritty fifties where he switched gears with progression of time.
PR vs DSG, Match 19 - High Risk, High Reward Choices
Reece Topley (DSG): The English pacer has all the ingredients to dominate quality batters but lacks consistency. His performance has also been hampered by long time injuries that acted as a speedbreaker towards his bowling performance. He has picked up eight wickets so far in SA20 2024 and is equally capable to control the new ball and deliver during the slog overs.
Matthew Bretzke (PR): The middle order batter has scored 211 runs this far for Paarl. Although he is yet to score a fifty, Bretzke has shown lot of promise by stabilising the innings and helping the lower order do their job and take the team past the finishing line or to a fighting total.
