'The kind of batter Surya is..'- Piyush Chawla Breaks Silence On MI Star's Slump in Form

In a display of solidarity, Mumbai Indians leg spinner Piyush Chawla has lent his support to out-of-form batter Suryakumar Yadav. Amidst concerns over Yadav's recent lacklustre performances, Chawla has staunchly asserted that it will only take the batter ten deliveries to regain his form.

Having endured a forgettable debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Yadav's struggles have persisted in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. In three matches for MI, the dynamic batsman has registered scores of 15, 1, and 0, with a dismal golden duck in the latest game against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday.

Chawla's endorsement of Yadav's capabilities has become a beacon of hope for the beleaguered batsman.

In the post-match conference, the leg-spinner dismissed concerns over Yadav's recent form, opining that it takes a mere ten balls to make a comeback in this format. He confidently proclaimed that the 32-year-old, being a highly confident player, would return to form in no time.

"It takes only 10 balls to make a comeback in this format, you hit four fours and you are back in form. He got out on the first ball, but that happens, the situation was such. That could have been a four or a six too so this happens," said Chawla.

While Yadav was dismissed for a golden duck against DC, the veteran spinner explained that such occurrences were commonplace in cricket and that the situation could have gone either way. However, he emphasized that the Mumbai Indians' star batter's recent run of poor form was not an issue for the team, with the young batter expected to make a quick resurgence in the upcoming games.

"Surya’s form was never a concern. The kind of batter Surya is, he’s high on confidence and it’s only a matter of 10 balls, he’ll be back to his form." concluded the 34-year-old cricketer.

MI were chasing a daunting target of 173 against DC, with Yadav coming in to bat after the dismissal of Tilak Varma. However, the swashbuckling batsman's stay at the crease was disappointingly brief as he was dismissed for a duck while guiding a short delivery from Mukesh Kumar to the fielder at fine leg.

Despite his early dismissal, MI managed to snatch a victory on the last ball of the game, marking their first win of the tournament after two consecutive losses.
