The idea behind the Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been to unearth home-grown talent and provide promising players with a platform to shine and prove their mantle.

While several players who have gained fame and reputation have gone on to play for India in T20Is, some are still making it big this season in the IPL for their respective franchises.

Kolkata Knight Riders' Rinku Singh, Mumbai Indians' Tilak Verma, and Gujarat Titans' Sai Sudarshan have lit the stage with their performances.

However, former India captain and opener Sunil Gavaskar has expressed disappointment in IPL 2023, failing to meet expectations.

Writing in the column for Sportstar, the 'Little Master' stated that so far, he has failed to see any new talent, especially in the bowling department, come up the ranks this season and foresees the same in the future as well.

Here's what Sunny G wrote

"Unless there are some hidden gems yet to be unearthed, the fast bowling department, the opening batting and spin bowling sections are looking devoid of any exciting talent,

"In the bowling department, too, there seems to be a dearth of talent. While it is understandable that the T20 format is very harsh on the bowlers, the lack of much planning and thought when the batter gets stuck into them is a concern. The spinners hardly ever change the pace at which they deliver and by bowling flatter they seem like medium pacers, which is exactly what the batters are looking for."

Still, with a lot of matches to go in IPL 2023, hopefully, budding new cricketers can make their mark and rise to the occasion and announce themselves on the world stage.
