The ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is gradually becoming a breeding place for injuries. Several national and international players struggle to manage themselves due to injuries, with many already being ruled out of the competition.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings are in trouble with their star all-rounder Ben Stokes and leading pacer Deepak Chahar missing out on their upcoming matches due to injuries.

Chahar, in particular, is a curious case marred with illness, forcing him to stay at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) more than his home.

The swing bowler missed last year's IPL due to a back injury, then was ruled out of India's T20 World Cup 2022 campaign following a stiff back.

The pace returned against Bangladesh in December but again suffered a hamstring injury.

Former India player and coach Ravi Shastri, who focused on improving players' fitness during his tenure, has clashed out at Chahar, and other Indian bowlers who have made the NCA their second home.

Here's what Shastri said

"Let us put it in this way, there are quite a few players who have become permanent residents of the NCA. Soon they will get a residence permit there, to walk in any time they want. And it is not a good thing. It's unreal,

"I mean you are not playing that much cricket to be injured again and again. You can't even play four matches on the trot. Then why are you going to NCA for? I mean you come back and after three matches you are back there."

Chahar, Washington Sundar, Prithvi Shaw, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ruturaj Gaikwad have visited the NCA over the past year or so and forth several times, which has hampered the Indian team's plans again and again.

The 30-year-old has played three games in IPL 2023 and has gone wicketless.
