"It Looked Like They Weren't Going to...": Parnell Reflects on RCB's Defeat to LSG

In a thrilling encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) emerged victorious against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by a solitary wicket.

RCB pacer, Wayne Parnell, attributed LSG's triumph to the scintillating batting performances of Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran, whose striking prowess left the South African in awe. According to Parnell, the duo's bating was so flawless that it never appeared as though they would mishit any ball.

Stoinis' impressive knock of 65 runs from 30 deliveries allowed other batsmen to build momentum and assert themselves early on, whereas Pooran's rapid-fire 62 runs off only 19 balls exhibited his striking brilliance.

Following RCB's failed attempt to defend their total of 213 runs, which LSG chased down with a ball to spare, Parnell acknowledged the opposition's remarkable tenacity and credited Stoinis and Pooran for their standout contributions. He also noted that their display was a game-changer, which tilted the scales in LSG's favour.

“Credit to Lucknow. They chased it down really well. A couple of the guys came in and it looked like they weren’t going to mishit anything. That was probably the difference in the game,” said Parnell in the post-match press conference.

The 33-year-old was gracious in defeat and expressed admiration for LSG's excellent chase, despite the tense finish. He further elaborated that RCB's total was decent, but an additional 10 runs could have been the deciding factor.

“Some very clean hitting and then a couple of wickets at the backend to kind of bring us back. But, if you look back, if we had an extra 10 runs, that could have been the difference. I still felt it was a decent total, but we had to execute some things.” concluded the southpaw.

Meanwhile, in terms of the bowling figures, Parnell, who featured in an IPL game after more than a decade, secured 3/41, while Mohammed Siraj clinched 3/22, but most of the other RCB bowlers struggled to contain LSG's powerful batters as they succumbed to their second consecutive defeat.
