MS Dhoni Decided To Shock The Nation With An Instagram Post On The Independence Day

MS Dhoni is one of the biggest names from India to have ever graced the game of cricket. The middle-order Indian batter was known for his abilities to deliver the unexpected under pressure. He has been the hero of many a games in which the fans felt that India were done and dusted but MSD instilled the belief - 'Dhoni Hain Toh Mumkin Hain'.

One of the highest points in his career was when the Indian team won the 2011 ODI World Cup under his leadership after 28 years. Besides winning the ODI World Cup, MSD has many other feathers in his throne - winning the first ever T20 World Cup, gaining the number one rank in Test cricket, winning the ICC Champions trophy in 2013, winning five IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings, etc. 

Throughout his career, MSD was known for doing the unexpected, be it taking bold decisions as a captain or finishing off impossible games with the bat. Living up this reputation, MS Dhoni called curtains on his glorious international career with an Instagram post on the 15th of August, 2020.

This meant that MSD's last appearance in the Blues of Indian jersey was in the Semifinals of 2019 ODI World Cup against New Zealand. A glorious career unfortunately came to an end with an heart wrenching defeat. In a chase of 240, MS Dhoni scored 50 off 72 balls and played the perfect second fiddle to Ravindra Jadeja (77 off 59) taking India to the doorsteps of win from a score reading 24/4 at one stage. However, MS could not bring the game to a successful conclusion as he fell prey to a brilliant fielding effort by Martin Guptill. 

It was nearly one year after this painful defeat that the former Indian World Cup winning captain decided to end his international career. It has already been five years since his last game for India, however, many fans still feel that the void left in the middle order by his departure has not yet been filled.

Speaking of his career, MS Dhoni played 350 ODIs for India and scored 10,773 runs in them at an average of 50.57, with 10 centuries and 73 half-centuries. He was a part of 90 Test matches for India in which he scored 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09 with six Hundreds and 33 fifties. He was also a part of 98 T20I, in which he scored 1,617 runs at an average of 37.60.
