As entire India celebrate the 78th year of its independence, the nation’s cricketing diaspora also joined in and cherished the patriotic occasion by expressing their greetings on social media. 

Former cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble and current Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir were among the leading personalities who shared their Independence wishes on August 15.

Active players like Yuzvendra Chahal, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya also poured in their wishes, while sharing pictures of the Indian tri-colour no less. Additionally, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to all its social media accounts to bask in India’s independence glory.

Former India opener and current head coach Gautam Gambhir took to his Instagram account and shared a picture of himself alongside his entire family posing behinds the Indian flag. In the caption, he wrote:

Yuvraj Singh

Former Indian all-rounder and two-time World Champion Yuvraj Singh shared a short video on X (formerly Twitter) which chronicled India’s rich sporting journey. In the caption, Yuvraj additionally wrote:

“Always proud and honoured to stand with our tricolor! Here’s wishing everyone a very Happy Independence Day”

Shreyas Iyer

India’s premier limited-overs batsman Shreyas Iyer shared a picture of himself from his prolific run during the 2023 ODI World Cup. In the caption, Iyer wished his fans a ‘Happy Independence Day’.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya, who often expresses his patriotism towards his country, shared pictures of India’s historic 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies on June 29. In the caption, Pandya wrote:

“Playing for my country will always come first for me. Wishing you all a very happy Independence Day.”

Sachin Tendulkar

All-time batting great Sachin Tendulkar shared a heartfelt Independence Day wish to every “honest” Indian.

The former cricketer acknowledged all professions and praised the dedicated citizens who work towards the development of the country.
