Cricket Australia have dealt a heavy blow as their star seamer Spencer Johnson has been ruled out of The Hundred because of an injury. The left-arm seamer will now miss the crucial UK tour starting from September 4.

Johnson, who features for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred, sustained a side injury and was named in Australia's T20I squad for the upcoming Scotland and England series.

Australia will first tour Scotland for a three-match T20I series starting on September 4 and then head to face England for three ODIs and Three T20Is from September 11-29.

Johnson was not a part of the ODI series but was also set to take centre stage in the T20Is. Cricket Australia confirmed Spencer being ruled out of the UK tour. Meanwhile, the Australian side are already without Pat Cummins.

“Johnson will return home for further assessment rehabilitation before the Australian summer,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

Sean Abbott will replace Johnson in the T20 squad for upcoming matches against Scotland and England.
