During the IPL 2025 season, GT captain Shubman Gill lost his temper at umpires regarding an LBW call against SRH. However, before Gill, CSK’s former captain, MS Dhoni, also had a similar fallout with umpires in IPL 2019.

IPL is among the world's most competitive franchise league, and emotions tend to run high on the field during do-or-die situations. During the IPL 2025 match between GT and SRH, Shubman Gill, who had no.7 on his back, had a fiery confrontation with umpires following a disagreement over an LBW call.

However, before this, a similar incident unfolded involving another no.7 legend, MS Dhoni.

When MS Dhoni Fought With Umpires In IPL

The incident occurred during a match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2019 season. In the last over of a close run chase, CSK required 18 runs to win. Dhoni was dismissed on the 3rd ball, leaving Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner to finish the match.

On the next delivery, Ben Stokes bowled a waist-high full toss, which was first called a no-ball by the on-field umpire Ullas Gandhe. But to everyone’s surprise, square-leg umpire Bruce Oxenford overruled the decision and declared that it was a legitimate delivery.

The surprise turn of events bewildered CSK players and infuriated MS Dhoni, who stormed onto the field from the dugout to confront the umpires. It was a shocking sight, as captains rarely step onto the ground to argue with officials. Dhoni strongly expressed his displeasure, but the decision remained unchanged.

Despite the drama, CSK won the match with a six from Santner on the final ball. However, the controversy made headlines as one of MS Dhoni’s rarest angry moments. He was fined 50% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.
