MS Dhoni, known for his wicket-keeping and captaincy brilliance, once showcased his incredible athleticism as a fielder during the Champions League T20 (CLT20). In a memorable match, Dhoni stunned fans with a diving effort to save a crucial boundary for CSK.

Legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni is largely renowned for his power-hitting as a finisher and sharp skills behind the stumps as a wicket-keeper.

He interestingly holds the record for most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in IPL. However, MS Dhoni performed different roles in his early days that perhaps the present-day generation is unaware of.

MS Dhoni once played as a fielder for CSK

In the year 2014, MS Dhoni used to play as a fielder for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as Wriddhiman Shah performed the wicket-keeping duties under Suresh Raina's captaincy.

During the CLT20 2014 season, CSK were up against Yorkshire and Dhoni found himself fielding at backward square leg. Yorkshire’s opener Adam Lyth found the gap with a slog sweep as the ball raced towards boundary.

However, Dhoni sprinted towards the boundary rope, tracking the ball with sharp precision. As the ball sped toward the boundary, Dhoni made a last-ditch dive, extending his body fully and managing to get his hand on the ball just before it crossed the rope.

CSK saved crucial runs early into the innings, and MS Dhoni received high praise for his athleticism and commitment.

Indeed, MS Dhoni’s diving save remains one of the standout moments of that CLT20 game, symbolising his commitment to performing for his team, regardless of the situation and fielding position.

When MS Dhoni led India to a historic bowl out win against Pakistan

In 2007, MS Dhoni’s legendary captaincy era began in spectacular fashion as India clinched a thrilling victory over Pakistan in a bowl-out during the inaugural T20 World Cup. Both India and Pakistan fought hard to finish the match, tied at 141 runs each. The game proceeded to a rare bowl-out.

For the bowl-out, Dhoni made an unconventional yet brilliant decision by selecting part-time bowlers like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Robin Uthappa to take the crucial deliveries. India won the bowl-out 3-0, thus leading to the beginning of Dhoni’s historic era of leadership.
