Before the T20 World Cup commenced, people had speculated that Pakistan would be over-reliant on their top order in the mega event. However, contrary to popular expectations, Pakistan's middle order passed with flying colours while the top-order batters let them down in the showpiece event.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam had an underwhelming World Cup campaign, managing only 124 runs at a mediocre average of 17.71 and a strike rate of 93.23. After Pakistan lost the final, fans and experts started questioning Babar's decision to bat at the top, as he, due to his timid batting, emerged as a liability for the team.

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has opined that Babar's adamance to bat at the top proved costly for Pakistan in the World Cup. Kaneria, the leading wicket-taking spinner for Pakistan in Tests, also hailed Virat Kohli for his selflessness and advised Babar to follow in the footsteps of the Indian talisman.

Here's what Kaneria stated

"Babar Azam has been stubborn about not giving up his opening spot. The same happened when he was with Karachi Kings too. He is adamant about this because he cannot bat in the middle order. His stubbornness is only doing harm to Pakistani cricket because of the slow starts,

"When it comes to being selfless, there is no one like Virat Kohli. The team lost the World Cup under his captaincy, and he was made the scapegoat after that. Many raised questions about his place in the team. But he didn't give up. He gave his full support to the new captain and played at the number he asked him to."

Meanwhile, Pakistan are slated to take on England in a three-match Test series starting next month.
