In a significant development, the ten IPL franchises revealed their list of retained players ahead of the IPL 2023. There were some shocking releases as well as some surprising retentions. Here's the complete list of players released and retained by the IPL franchises. 


Mumbai Indians

Legendary finisher Kieron Pollard announced his IPL retirement, while the likes of Riley Meredith, Daniel Sams, Tymal Mills and Murugan Ashwin faced axing as the five-time champions looked all set to revamp their bowling unit.

Chennai Super Kings

Just like their arch rivals Mumbai Indians, the Chennai Super Kings decided to release their long-serving Caribbean legend Dwayne Bravo ahead of the mini-auction. Chris Jordan, Adam Milne and Robin Uthappa were the other notable absentees from the current squad.

In a shocking turn of events, SRH released their two stalwarts, Kane Williamson and Nicholas Pooran. While Williamson's axing is understandable considering his poor recent form, Pooran's exclusion surprised many.

Punjab Kings

As expected, Punjab Kings released former captain Mayank Agarwal to the auction pool, appointing Shikhar Dhawan as their skipper for the IPL 2023. Swashbuckling West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith, who was one of the hottest buys in the mega auction, was also excluded from the squad.
