Former Pakistan fast bowler turned bowling coach Aaqib Javed has held Pakistan Cricket Board responsible for not handling Shaheen Afridi and Fakhar Zaman's injuries during the T20 World Cup 2022.

Javed, who has been the bowling coach of Lahore Qalandars - the team in which speedsters like Shaheen and Haris Rauf play, has been one of the prime reasons behind Pakistan pace-battery's redemption in the recent past.

Under the 50-year-old coaching, Rauf has evolved to become one of the most daunting pacers in modern-day cricket. Shaheen, on the other hand, also gives Javed and the Qalandars management a lot of credit for his success.

The former Pakistan bowler while talking to Geo News said, "Shaheen was played when he wasn't fit enough for World Cup. Today, we are exactly where we started; with two injured players.

"I said this before the World Cup, Shaheen is important but World Cup comes every two years. How will you bring another Shaheen?"

Returning after an ACL injury, Shaheen went into the recently concluded World Cup as Pakistan's spearhead. He took a couple of matches to find his rhythm - which his team lost against India and Zimbabwe.

As soon as the 22-year-old found his form back, Pakistan started peaking - but an injury relapse saw Shaheen breakout during the climax of the World Cup final against England.

Fakhar, meanwhile, played a single match in the pinnacle where he aggravated his knee injury while batting.

"PCB medical panel declared Fakhar Zaman fit, but he became unfit after only a few overs," Javed further added.

"We need to make an inquiry on whether they even know anything about sports injury," he said while concluding.
