The red-ball action returns to India next month as a thrilling two-match Test series against the West Indies is set to begin. After a dramatic draw in the previous Test series against England, Team India’s Test squad would get a chance to showcase their red-ball skills.

As Rishabh Pant is missing out on the series, N. Jagadeesan has found a place in the squad. A standout star of Tamil Nadu cricket, Jagadeesan grabbed attention with his dazzling triple century in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season. Let’s take a look back at this unforgettable milestone in his career.

Jagadeesan crafts a fairytale with a magical triple hundred

Since the beginning of the game, Tamil Nadu has been a hub of outstanding cricketing talents. Among all the greats, young wicketkeeper-batter Narayan Jagadeesan has carved his legacy with his brilliance. Since making his first-class debut in 2016, he has been a key asset for the domestic side. Among his many match-winning feats, Jagadeesan’s triple century stands out as a dream milestone in an already impressive career.

In the 2023-24 season of the Ranji Trophy, Tamil Nadu’s domination shone bright as Narayan Jagadeesan unleashed his unstoppable mode on that season as he ended up being the fourth highest run scorer. While facing Chandigarh in the group stage game, the Tamil Nadu batter shattered the records.

After Chandigarh put on a total of 111 runs, Tamil Nadu showcased domination while chasing the total in the first innings. After Balasubramaniam Sachin walked away early on 16 runs, Narayan Jagadeesan and Pradosh Ranjan Paul tightened their grip and stitched a 233-run stand.

After Paul’s departure, Jagadeesan took charge and lit up the field with his flawless strokeplay. He first raised his bat for a classy century, then tore into the opposition bowlers. From there, his dominance only grew, powering past 150 before turning the innings into a statement double hundred, a knock that left the rivals chasing shadows.

On that day, the Tamil Nadu batter was on a mission to break world records. After crossing the 250-run mark, he smashed the iconic triple hundred. In the 61st over, his marathon finally ended at a staggering 321 runs off 403 balls, laced with 23 fours and 5 towering sixes.

With that unforgettable innings, Jagadeesan rewrote Tamil Nadu’s record books. His majestic 321 not only eclipsed W.V. Raman’s long-standing mark of 313 but also powered his side to a mammoth total of 610.

As Rishabh Pant is set to miss the West Indies series due to injury concerns, Narayan Jagadeesan’s entry in the Indian Test squad is a significant step. Backed by a stellar domestic record and a fairytale triple ton, his inclusion feels less like a replacement and more like the rise of a new contender ready to script his own chapter in red-ball cricket.
