It has been made official - Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the fifth Test vs England at the Oval, London. The star batter who sustained a fractured toe injury on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will be kept under the observation of the BCCI doctors, and no timeline has been given for his return.

In his place, BCCI has gone in with Narayan Jagadeesan as his replacement for the final Test, which commences from July 31.

"Rishabh Pant, who sustained a fracture to his right foot during the fourth Test against England in Manchester, has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test of the series," BCCI said in a press release.

"The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress and the team wishes him a speedy recovery."

What happened to Rishabh Pant in Manchester Test?

On Day 1 of the 4th Test, Pant was all set for a big total, but the Indian batter went for a fancy shot, and the ball struck his toe. Eventually, he was carried off the field. However, in a brave act, Pant walked out to bat on the second day, and also completed his fifty in the match before Jofra Archer cleaned him up.

He was not required to bat in the second innings, as Shubman Gill scored a majestic hundred, and so did Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar to help India salvage a draw.

Who is Narayan Jagadeesan?

A talented batter from Tamil Nadu, Jagadeesan carved a name for himself in the domestic setup, and is also a household name in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. He honed his skills at the CSK camp in the eleventh edition of the league, and has also represented KKR, the 2024 IPL champions.

In first-class cricket, Jagadeesan has played 52 matches, and has accumulated 3373 runs, at an average of 47.50. He is known for his impeccable technique, and will provide solidity to the Indian middle-order.
