Jasprit Bumrah is considered one of the best bowlers in the Indian team across formats. He has been India's go-to bowler in crunch situations and also gives crucial breakthroughs. However, on Thursday, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif made a controversial statement about Bumrah's injury that didn't sit well with the cricketer.
The 31-year-old cricketer replied to the message, saying it was 'inaccurate' on social media. The matter didn't end there. Kaif came up with another reply on social media on Friday.
Mohammad Kaif's subtle reply to Jasprit Bumrah
Ahead of the clash against Sri Lanka, India's star bowler Jasprit Bumrah and former cricketer Mohammad Kaif engaged in a war of words on social media. Kaif didn't hold back from replying to Bumrah's 'inaccurate' statement on X. He mentioned that Bumrah is India's 'biggest match-winner' and was putting forward his observations.
"Please take this as a cricketing observation from a well-wisher and an admirer. You are India cricket's biggest match-winner, and I know what it takes to give it all when on the field wearing India colours," Kaif wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
What happened between Kaif and Bumrah?
On Thursday, Mohammad Kaif took to social media to point out how Jasprit Bumrah was bowling just three overs under captain Suryakumar Yadav, while he used to bowl four overs under Rohit Sharma. He questioned Bumrah's fitness, which became the highlight of his observation.
"Bumrah under Rohit would generally bowl overs 1, 13, 17, 19. Under Surya, in the Asia Cup, he bowled a three-over spell at the start. To avoid injury, Bumrah these days prefers to bowl while his body is warmed up. 1 over of Bumrah in the remaining 14 overs is a huge relief for batters, against stronger teams at the World Cup, this could hurt India," Kaif wrote.
Bumrah replied, saying, "Inaccurate before, inaccurate again."
Indeed, the star bowler's Asia Cup 2025 campaign hasn't been going great. In four matches, he has taken just five wickets. However, with the finals coming up against Pakistan, India will need Bumrah to fire up and give the breakthroughs in the powerplays.
