The stage is set for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, with the tournament captains officially launching the event at a special ceremony held simultaneously in Bengaluru and Colombo. The marquee event, featuring eight top teams, will commence on September 30th, with hosts India and Sri Lanka clashing in the opening match in Guwahati.

The tournament will be played across five venues in India and Sri Lanka, promising a showcase of the highest standard of women's cricket. The captains expressed their excitement and anticipation for the challenge ahead, highlighting the growth and competitive balance of the global game.

Home hopes buoyant for Harmanpreet

The host captains, Harmanpreet Kaur of India and Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka, spoke about the unique excitement of a home World Cup and the inspiring prospect of playing in front of packed stadiums.

"Every team in this World Cup has an equal chance to win, which shows how much we have raised the standard of women's cricket. We’ve also started seeing packed stadiums, which is something we really enjoy because we’ve never seen that before," Kaur said.

Expectations galore for India Women

Harmanpreet was confident of the home crowd turning up in large numbers, and the Indian skipper was oozing confidence while speaking of giving it their best at home.

"A home World Cup is always special, and there are a lot of expectations from us. We’re going to see a lot of fans in the stadium cheering for us, and I am sure we’ll give our best," Harmanpreet concluded.

Sri Lanka skipper Athapaththu added, “We are playing on our home soil, and I know many Sri Lankans will be there to support us. I hope to see the vibrant atmosphere in the stadiums during our World Cup matches."

With the warm-up games concluded, all participating teams have now fine-tuned their preparations for the global showpiece, ready to compete for cricket's ultimate prize.
