Ajinkya Rahane's leadership qualities have always been praised as under his leadership India won the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 in Australia. He is currently not part of the Indian team and in recent times, he has successfully lead Mumbai in Ranji Trophy and Irani Trophy. Along with his leadership skills, he is also known to be a thorough gentleman and has been guiding youngsters in domestic cricket for a long time now.

As a captain, there are also times when one has to take a tough call to make a youngster realise his mistake and avoid long-term damage. Rahane did that to perfection during the Duleep Trophy final in 2022. It was a clash between West Zone and South Zone, and Rahane was leading West Zone.

Rahane Teaches Yashasvi Jaiswal Valuable Lesson With Strict Action

Yashasvi Jaiswal was one of the rising stars in that team, and he played a big role in West Zone's win in that match with a brilliant 265 in the second innings. However, more than that double century, it was Rahane's move of sending Jaiswal off the field due to a disciplinary issue that caught the eye of cricket fans around the world. It was the final day of the Duleep Trophy game and Yashasvi Jaiswal was involved in a heated discussion with Ravi Teja - South Zone batter. The first incident happened in the 50th over which was cooled down by Rahane and on-field umpires.

However, the duo again had a heated chat in the 57th over, following which Rahane took a bold decision of sending Yashasvi Jaiswal off the field. Yashasvi was eventually called back on the field in the 65th over, but the move created lot of buzz. Now, after two years, Ajinkya Rahane has opened up about the incident on Curly Tales YouTube channel. Rahane has clarified that Jaiswal unknowingly crossed the line with his sledging, and if he would have not sent the young player off the field, he would have been banned for four matches.

Rahane clarified that after the game, match referee told him that they were planning to ban Yashasvi Jaiswal for four matches but because he was sent back to the pavilion, they did not take any strict action. The incident once again showed Rahane's quality as a leader and after that game, Yashasvi has just gone from strength to strength and is now an important asset for India in Test cricket.
