A memorable night at Wankhede, witnessed two T20 superstars — Suryakumar Yadav and Rashid Khan — display their best as five-time champions Mumbai Indians locked horns against defending champions Gujarat Titans yesterday in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. For Mumbai, Yadav scored a belligerent century, taking them to a massive 218, while Khan brought out the all-rounder in him, first claimed four wickets and then slammed a fifty.
Khan's heroics entertained a jam-packed stadium, however, it could not get Titans past the finish line, who lost the match by 27 runs. Coming in at No.8, the Afghanistan white-ball skipper struck three fours and 10 sixes in his knock of 79*.
As quoted by India Today, Titans assistant coach Aashish Kapoor while speaking in the post-match conference praised Khan for his all-rounder abilities and called him the best in T20s.
Here's what Kapoor said
"We all know that Rashid is a top-class player. There is no doubt about it and people look at him as a spinner but he has proven that he is a top all-rounder at least in this format. Till right now, he didn't have to bat. I think he has batted just one ball before this game. Last year he got a lot of batting, and he won a lot of matches for us. This year this is the first time where he got a decent inning, where he got some balls to bat and he almost pulled it off,"
This is also the fourth time in the history of IPL that a player with four wickets and a fifty in a match, ended up on the losing side.
In the match, Khan picked crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Nehal Wadhera, and Tim David, and is currently the highest wicket-taker (23) this season.
