'Seen 10 Million Balls But Never ...': Tom Moody Praises Suryakumar Yadav's Six Off Mohammed Shami

Suryakumar Yadav lit up Mumbai's night sky last evening when Mumbai Indians clashed against Gujarat Titans in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 encounter. Yadav slammed his maiden IPL hundred and displayed exhilarating skills with the bat during his unbeaten knock of 98.

Mumbai went on to defend 218 runs, despite late heroics from Rashid Khan for Gujarat, but they fell 27 runs short. Khan himself played a quick-fire cameo of 79 from 32, which included 10 towering sixes and just three fours.

During his innings, Yadav hit a six off Mohammed Shami in the 19th over, that even impressed Sachin Tendulkar, who was seated in the MI dressing room.

Former Australian cricketer and coach Tom Moody speaking on ESPNcricinfo opened up about how Yadav's six off Shami was one his best-ever seen shots.

The MI batter sliced the ball, which was outside the off-stump, and deliberately guided the ball over the boundary line behind the short third-man region.

Here's what Moody said

“That particular ball, I don't think I've ever seen a six hit over third man with a vertical bat. I've seen hit with a horizontal bat, a cut shot going over third man. I've never seen a six hit with a vertical bat off the middle of the bat, I've even seen a thick-edge fly. Never seen it before in my life!

I've seen nearly 10 million balls bowled in my lifetime in all forms of the game, and I've never seen that before. It was totally mint. It was in his head, and no one else's head, that he was capable of doing that,”

Apart from Moody, former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop also lauded Yadav's shot as ridiculous.

“This for me will forever be know as “The Shot”. That’s just ridiculous from SKY,”

With this win, Mumbai maintain their third position on the points table, and inch closer to a playoff spot.
