Delhi Capitals (DC), who are currently at the bottom of the IPL 2023 points table, will face off against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 59th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on 13 May at 7:30 pm.
Both the teams would be eager to win and keep their slim chances of reaching the playoffs alive.
With seven losses in hand, Delhi Capitals are teetering on the edge of elimination from the race for the playoffs in the current season. While, DC can only reach a maximum of 14 points by winning their next three matches, they will hope for more focused performance from their Indian batters to put up a strong fight.
So far, the specialist Indian batters have made little impact, with skipper David Warner, keeper-batter Phil Salt, and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh being the main contributors to the team's batting success.
The middle-order batter Manish Pandey, Ripal Patel, and Aman Hakim Khan have been unable to adapt their game to the match situation, lacking the necessary killer instinct. As a result, the team has been hampered by their inability to score runs quickly or rotate the strike effectively. This deficiency in the middle-order has effectively dashed their hopes of winning matches.
The bowling unit has performed relatively well for the team, with the spin pair of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav maintaining a good line, while pacers Ishant Sharma and Khaleel Ahmed have been successful in taking wickets. However, the team felt the absence of the fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who had to return home, in their last match.
Punjab Kings' performance has been inconsistent in the current season of the IPL. They have alternated between good and bad performances. Their bowlers could not defend their total in the last two matches, as Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders outperformed them with the bat.
Although Shikhar Dhawan has been the best performer with the bat for PBKS, the same cannot be said for their other opener, Prabsimran Singh.
Arshdeep Singh has been the critical bowler in Punjab Kings' bowling attack, but he, along with Nathan Ellis and Sam Curran, has struggled to keep the opposition from scoring runs. Sam Curran, the most expensive purchase at the auction, has not been able to perform well with the ball and has yet to shine too brightly.
PBKS had an outstanding opportunity to make it to the top 4, however, KKR's Rinku Singh halted the team from achieving success after he smashed the winning four on the last ball in the previous clash.

Pitch Report: The pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the upcoming IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings is predicted to heavily favour the batters, which could lead to a high-scoring match. In the current season, the average score for the first innings has been over 165 runs, showing that the pitch is suited for batting. Moreover, in the previous five IPL matches played at this venue, the team that batted second emerged victorious in four of them, suggesting a potential preference for chasing. Therefore, the team that wins the toss may consider choosing to bowl first.
