Former Indian cricketer and active BJP politician Gautam Gambhir has distributed sweets and supplies among sex workers on the occasion of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Earlier in January, the 42-year-old also distributed sarees and shawls among Delhi’s GB Road sex workers to commemorate the occasion.

Gautam Gambhir’s new initiative wins over netizens

Gautam Gambhir, known for his many philanthropic activities across Delhi, recently distributed sweets, clothing and other supplies to numerous sex workers on the occasion of the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Explaining his gesture for the GB Road sex workers in Delhi earlier in January, the former cricketer claimed that nothing could have been a better day for him. While speaking with the ANI, he said:

“The Ram Temple has been inaugurated so I want to congratulate every Indian. Lord Ram belongs to everyone. Today we have distributed sarees and shawls to women who are part of the society. Today is a festival for them too. Nothing could have been a better day for me than this.”

On the cricketing front, Gautam Gambhir announced his retirement from all forms of the game in December 2018, i.e., over two years after playing his final international match for Team India. During his playing days, he represented the country in 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20I matches, and was an integral member of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup compositions.

His political and philanthropic ventures aside, Gambhir will soon be making his return to the field as the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in this year’s IPL 2024 season. He was roped in by the franchise back in November 2023, after he helmed the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the previous two editions of the tournament.
