Go to a fashion show: Sunil Gavaskar lashes out at selectors for Sarfaraz's snub

Scoring runs after runs, Mumbai's Sarfaraz Khan is being repeatedly ignored by selectors for his fitness issues. The 25-year-old has been in terrific form in the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy where he has already thumped 556 runs in just 9 nine innings that too at an average of 92.

Knocking on the door of selectors for a very long time, he is surely one of the biggest names that could break into the Indian team soon. The Mumbai lad has got plenty of support from everyone including former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar who isn't pleased with his ignorance.

Gavaskar mentioned that if body size and shape are the criteria for selection, then they should go and look out for players in a fashion show. He further claimed that runs and wickets should be considered the first priority for picking up the players.

"You got to make sure that the man is fit for cricket as well. And if the person, whoever it is, is fit for cricket, then I don't think it should really matter.

“All that tells you that the man is fit for cricket. If you are looking for only slim and trim guys, then you might as well go to a fashion show and pick some models and then give them a bat and ball in their hand and then include them. You have cricketers in all shapes and sizes. Don't go by the size, but go by the runs and the wickets.”

Sarfaraz will be playing for Mumbai against Maharashtra from 24th January at Brabourne Stadium.
