Riding on a match-winning knock from Matt Renshaw, Brisbane Heat swatted aside Melbourne Stars by three wickets in the 44th match of the BBL 2022-23. With this victory, the Heat took their tally to nine points in the standings.

Webster-Larkin stand powers Stars to 159

After being put into bat, Melbourne Stars got off to a disastrous start, losing Joe Clarke and Hilton Cartwright for single-digit scores. Before being dismissed by Matt Renshaw, Thomas Rogers contributed 26 runs off 23 balls.

However, Beau Webster and Nick Larkin stitched a brilliant stand of 48 runs, ensuring a fighting total for the hosts. While Webster scored 36 with one four and two sixes, Larkin smashed a gorgeous 36-ball 58, laced with seven fours and one six.

Michael Neser emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Brisbane Heat, scalping four wickets for 25 runs in his four-over spell.

Renshaw holds his nerve as Heat have the last laugh

Chasing 160, Brisbane Heat had a poor start to their innings, as Liam Hatcher removed Josh Brown and skipper Usman Khawaja in quick succession. Marnus Labuschagne and Sam Hain also recorded failures, being dismissed for six and five, respectively.

However, Matt Renshaw and Jimmy Peirson gave the Stars a run for their money, stitching a counter attacking 66-run stand for the fifth over.

While Peirson contributed 22 runs, Renshaw unleashed his vintage best, hammering a flamboyant 56-ball 90* with the help of six fours and four sixes.

Wickets kept falling at one end, but the stylish southpaw kept his cool to secure a memorable win for the Heat by hitting a boundary in the very last ball.
