Australia will soon embark on its four-Test tour of India in hopes of claiming the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. However, a cricket-heavy season at home sees players like Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc struggle to regain fitness ahead of the first Test in India on February 9.

Head coach Andrew McDonald, speaking on a day prior to the third and final Test against South Africa, revealed that the management is hopeful of Green playing the Nagpur Test.

Green, who claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in the Boxing Day Test, picked up a finger injury courtesy a sharp bouncer from Anrich Nortje and will miss the Sydney Test.

As per ESPNcricinfo, McDonald lauded the medical staff for their treatment of Green.

"I am confident that he will be fit in the time frame that has been given. The challenge will be to make sure that we can be creative in the way that he trains and make sure that his body is in order to mitigate if something else goes wrong, which can always happen when you’re coming back from an injury,

The medical team have done an outstanding job. We’re confident and feel that he will be ready for that first Test match against India. The risk was not there to lengthen the injury and that’s why he batted in that first innings,"

Earlier, the 23-year-old all-rounder became the second costliest player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after being picked up by Mumbai Indians in the 2023 mini-auction last month for INR 17.5 crore.
