In the latest developments, Indian star allrounder Hardik Pandya is all set to replace the all-format captain Rohit Sharma to become India's new skipper in the T20I format.

After India's awful exit from the T20 World Cup 2022, there has been a buzz created around Pandya being the captain of the T20I side, with a newly-branded Indian lineup at least in the format.

The appointment of the maestro allrounder as the new skipper is most likely to be made in BCCI's Apex Council Meeting, scheduled on December 21.

Not only that, as per reports - alongside Sharma, various big names could be dropped from the T20I team.

Pandya, who led Gujarat Titans to a title in their inaugural IPL season, captained India’s T20I side in the series against Ireland and New Zealand earlier in the year.

His astute leadership qualities and tactical mindset make him a standout contender. Moreover, age and injuries are also falling against Sharma. The 29-year-old also has had his fair share of injuries, but since the IPL 2022, Pandya has rejuvenated himself.

Meanwhile, the 35-year-old took over India’s T20 reign from Virat Kohli after the team’s horrible run in the T20 World Cup 2021.

In his career as a T20I skipper, Sharma has become India’s most successful captain in the format after MS Dhoni. He has led India in 51 T20I games and won 39 out of them.

As reported, followed are the agendas to be discussed in Apex Council Meeting -

  • Appointment of the New Selection panel
  • Central contracts of both Men and Women cricketers
  • Appointment of the new T20I coach
  • Injury management policies
  • India's performances  in Asia Cup and T20 World Cup
  • Call on Pink-Ball Test between India and Australia
