Steve Harmison questions Jos Buttler over Matthew Wade- Mark Wood incident 

Jos Buttler did not appeal against Matthew Wade in 1st T20I [PC: Associated Press]

England skipper Jos Buttler's decision not to appeal against Australian wicket-keeper Matthew Wade has opened a minefield of opinion. Wade, during the first T20I between England and hosts Australia, was seen thrusting his arm towards a charging Mark Wood, who was apparently attempting a catch and bowl.

Buttler chose to ignore the incident and not go for a referral, inciting criticism from former England paceman Stephen Harmison. Harmison questioned Buttler on whether if the incident was to have happened during the final of a global tournament, would the latter still opt not to appeal. 

According to the Telegraph, Harmison said

“I would love to have seen what would have happened if that was a final – I think Jos might have appealed. 

If I was Buttler I would have gone up to Wade and leant on his shoulder, watched the big screen and said to Wade 'what would you do in this situation because you have been here before?,"

Harmison recalled a 2015 incident involving Ben Stokes and Mitchell Starc, where the England Test captain re-created the same incident, where Wade was the first-one to appeal for obstructing the field. 

Former Indian bowler Venkatesh Prasad also raised eyebrows over Buttler's decision as well.
