Big Bash League (BBL) club Melbourne Renegades has roped in Sri Lankan spinner Ruwantha Kellapotha for the upcoming 2022-23 edition. Kellapotha thus becomes the side's first overseas replacement player of the season.

Here's how Kellapotha reacted to his signing

“I really appreciate this opportunity the Renegades have given me to be involved this year. It is a huge privilege and something I do not take lightly. This is going to be a great experience for me, playing with and against some of the best players in the world. I want to be a team player and whatever my team needs, I’ll give it 100 per cent.”

The 31-year-old played First-Class cricket in Sri Lanka back in 2013, before shifting base to Australia. He played his club cricket in Melbourne for the Dandenong District Cricket Association.

Only last year, the leg-spinner moved into playing Premier Cricket with Casey (South Australia), picking up 46 wickets across First XI and Slam matches to become the highest wicket-taker, further representing Victoria's 2nd XI as well.

Before joining Renegades, Kellapotha featured for the club's academy in a Top End T20 series in Darwin last month, where his performances helped him earn a chance to play in BBL 12.
