The right-handed batter then emerged as the top run-scorer in the subsequent edition with 635 runs, while also aiding CSK to lift the title.

In an interaction with Super Kings Academy, Gaikwad looked back on his IPL debut and reckoned that Dhoni urged him to relish the opportunity and be confident in his abilities.
“When I made my debut, he (M.S Dhoni) was very clear. He said to enjoy the game. Representing this franchise is a huge achievement, a lot of great players have been part of this dressing room, and a lot of greats have been involved with this franchise.
"So, I think he just said that ‘you just need to be in that moment and enjoy it."
Furthermore, Gaikwad thanked the CSK management for backing him, despite tough times in the past.
In 14 games of IPL 2022, the opening batter mustered 368 runs at a strike rate of 126.46, comprising three fifties. Talking about the team's performances, CSK finished on the ninth position in the table with only four victories in 14 appearances.
