The Chattogram leg of the BPL 2025-26 season has been compromised owing to the sudden scheduling changes of the tournament. The double-header set to be organised on December 30 got postponed to January 4 owing to the tragic demise of Bangladesh’s ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, thus leaving a gap of just a few hours before the commencement of the league’s Chattogram phase.

Rahman Mithu, director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has now himself considered the possibility of cancelling the Chattogram venue overall from the ongoing BPL 2025-26 season while discussing alternate options.

Moving broadcasting equipment on time a dilemma for BCB, confirms director

While speaking to The Daily Star, BCB director Rahman Mithu has confirmed that the board is still trying to adjust the revamped schedule. Moreover, Rahman even considered the possibility that the board might even cancel the Chattogram venue overall from the BPL 2025-26 season and host its share of matches at an alternate stadium instead.

The cricket administrator claimed that shifting broadcasting equipment from Sylhet and Chattogram will take time, and holding matches just a day before the Chattogram phase might compromise the situation at hand. The BCB director further considered the possibility of shifting the BPL 2025-26 final, which is currently on course to be played on January 23.

Notably, any further delay in the BPL 2025-26 schedule will further jeopardise Bangladesh team’s preparation and overseas’ player participation for the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in February.

As of now, the revised schedule stemmed from the demise of Khaleda Zia means that Sylhet Titans vs Chattogram Royals and Dhaka Capitals vs Rangpur Riders matches will now be played on January 4.
