The veteran all-rounder Rohan Mustafa has revealed that he has been omitted from the United Arab Emirates T20 World Cup 2022 squad. The 33-year-old received the message from UAE Selectors on Friday night.

Mustafa is the most capped player for the UAE time in the ODI and T20I format. He has amassed 2091 runs and scalped 117 wickets in 109 games.

The T20 World Cup Qualifier A Final witnessed him scoring 37* off 35 balls against Ireland in February this year. In the same tournament, Mustafa picked eight wickets in five appearances to help the team qualify for the showpiece event.

In the recent Asia Cup Qualifiers, the right-arm pacer played a solitary match and finished with figures of 1/40.

Interestingly, he would have created history by becoming the first UAE player to feature in three World Cups.

Here is what Rohan Mustafa said:

“Of course it is going to be sad for me to watch."

“It was the dream for me, as it would have meant me becoming the first UAE player to play at three World Cups.

“I have played cricket with them for a long, long time and they are all my friends and colleagues. I wish that they will win and qualify for the next round.”

UAE will face Sri Lanka, Namibia and the Netherlands in the first round of the T20 WC next month. The performances in this round will dictate the longevity of their campaign in the tournament.
